Frequently asked questions
about bras for fuller busts
Everything we get asked most often — how to find your bra size, what DD and DDD mean in European sizing, how our Polish and French bras fit, and how ordering, shipping and returns work.
Section one
Bra sizing and fit
The questions we answer more than any others. If you take one thing from this page, take the measuring method in the first answer.
How do I find my bra size?
Two measurements with a soft tape, taken in inches.
Your band size: measure snugly around your ribcage directly under your bust. Round to the nearest whole inch and add two. If that lands on an odd number, go up to the next even number, because band sizes are always even. A 40 inch ribcage gives you a 42 band.
Your cup size: measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust, then subtract your under-bust measurement. The difference in inches is your cup letter — one inch is an A, two inches a B, and straight on through the alphabet. A ten inch difference is a J cup.
Our bra size chart and calculator does the arithmetic for you and shows the European, French and Italian equivalents.
Do you carry DD and DDD cup bras?
Yes. In European sizing a DD is an E cup and a DDD is an F cup, because the letters run straight through the alphabet without doubling up.
Our size menu shows both labels together, so a 40E appears as 40E / 40DD and a 40F appears as 40F / 40DDD. Choose either — they are the same bra.
Shop DD cup bras or DDD cup bras.
What cup and band sizes do you carry?
Cup sizes B through M in band sizes 30 through 50 — including DD, DDD, F, G, H, I, J, K, L and M.
That upper range is the part most mainstream US retailers do not stock. It is the reason many of our customers found us in the first place, after being told their size does not exist.
Browse the full range by cup size in the grid at the bottom of this page.
Are your bras true to size?
WiesMANN and Sans Complexe run true to the chart.
Gorsenia bands run small. When you order Gorsenia, take one band size up from your measured size and keep the same cup letter — a measured 36G becomes a 38G in Gorsenia.
Do Polish and French bras fit differently from US bras?
Yes, and for a fuller bust it is usually a significant improvement. Four construction differences do the work:
- Narrow underwire that traces the base of the breast and sits flush against the ribcage, rather than spreading wide across breast tissue the way most US wires do
- Side boning — vertical support panels that keep the cups upright and stop them sliding outward through the day
- A flat center gore that lies against the sternum instead of floating away from the body
- Wide, adjustable straps that spread weight across the shoulder rather than cutting a groove into it
The band does most of the supporting work, so it will feel firmer at first than a soft US band. That is correct, not too tight.
What should I order if I am between two sizes?
Order the larger cup with the smaller band. The cup volume stays roughly the same while the firmer band gives you the support — this is what sister sizing means.
If a measurement lands exactly on a half inch, round up. A little more cup is far more comfortable across a long day than a little less.
Why does my bra band ride up at the back?
Almost always because the band is too loose and the cup is too small at the same time. When a cup cannot hold all the breast tissue, the weight pulls the front of the bra down and the back rides up to compensate.
Re-measure. Most women who come to us with this problem move down a band size and up a cup letter or two.
Do you carry sizes like 40G, 42H, 38J and 44H?
Yes — those combinations are among our most requested, and they are exactly the sizes most US retailers stop short of.
A 38 or 40 band paired with a G, H, J or K cup is common among the women who shop with us, and we stock it as a matter of course rather than as a special order. The same is true of 34H, 36J, 42J, 46H and 38K.
If a size you need is showing as out of stock, email us — we can usually order it from the manufacturer.
Bra straps dig into my shoulders. What should I look for?
Shoulder grooves almost always mean the band is doing too little and the straps are doing too much. In a well-fitted bra the band carries around eighty percent of the weight and the straps simply position the cups.
Two things fix it. First, re-measure — a band that is too loose transfers its job to your shoulders. Second, choose wide, adjustable straps, which spread the remaining load across the shoulder instead of concentrating it in a narrow line.
Every bra we carry is built with a firm band and wide straps for this reason.
Can someone help me find my size?
Yes, and it is free. Email your two measurements to info@fitaumax.com and we will tell you exactly which size to order in each brand we carry.
You can also book a free bra sizing consultation if you would rather talk it through.
Section two
Our bras and brands
What we make, what we do not make, and who makes it.
Which brands do you carry?
Four European houses, each engineering for fuller busts rather than scaling up a smaller bra:
- Gorsenia — Poland
- WiesMANN — Poland, with more than fifty years of engineering experience
- Sans Complexe — France, with nearly seventy years of French craftsmanship
- Nessa — Poland
Do you carry wire-free bras?
No. We specialize in supportive underwire bras, because for a fuller bust the underwire is what makes real lift possible without the straps taking the whole load.
Our wires are narrower than most US wires and sit flush against the ribcage, so they support without poking or pressing on breast tissue.
Will your bras stop spillage and side bulge?
That is exactly what the construction is designed for. Full coverage cups with side boning contain breast tissue at the sides rather than letting it escape under the arm, and the flat center gore keeps the cups separated and anchored.
Spillage is most often a cup size problem rather than a style problem, so it is worth re-measuring before you order.
Do you sell matching bra and panty sets?
Yes. Many of our bras have a matching panty cut to the same European pattern, so the set sits correctly together.
Shop bra and panty sets.
What does "unpadded" mean?
An unpadded bra has no foam or fiberfill inside the cup. The lace or fabric sits directly against the skin, and all the shape comes from the cut of the cup and the structure around it rather than from padding.
For a fuller bust this is usually the better choice — padding adds bulk and heat without adding support, and a well-engineered unpadded cup gives a rounder, more natural shape under clothing.
Is the lace itchy?
No. Our bras use premium European lace, which is woven softer and finer than the stiff decorative lace most US bras use as trim.
It is worth saying plainly, because a great many women have been put off lace entirely by one scratchy bra. European manufacturers treat lace as the fabric of the bra rather than a decoration stuck on top, and it behaves completely differently against the skin.
Do you have bras in colors other than black and white?
How long should a bra last, and how do I care for it?
With rotation and gentle care, expect roughly nine to twelve months of regular wear before the band starts to relax.
Hand wash in cool water, never wring the cups, and dry flat away from direct heat. Rotate between at least two bras so the elastic has a day to recover between wears.
A useful signal: when a band that felt firm when new now sits loose on the tightest hook, the bra is finished — your size has not changed.

Section three
Buying Polish and French bras in the US
European bras are difficult to buy in America. Here is how we fit in.
Where can I buy Polish bras in the USA?
Here. Polish bras are the core of what we do, and we hold stock in the United States so you are not waiting on an international shipment or paying import charges on a single bra.
Polish manufacturers have spent generations engineering for fuller busts specifically, rather than scaling up a smaller pattern, and it shows in the narrow underwire, the side boning and the firm band.
Shop Polish bras for fuller busts, or go direct to Gorsenia, WiesMANN and Nessa.
Where can I buy French bras in the USA?
We carry Sans Complexe, a French house with nearly seventy years of craftsmanship behind it, stocked in the United States and shipped from New York.
French cut tends to run a little more delicate through the cup than Polish cut while keeping the same structural support underneath.
Are you an authorized retailer for these brands?
Yes. Fit Au Max Lingerie is an authorized retailer for Gorsenia, WiesMANN, Sans Complexe and Nessa, buying directly from the manufacturers rather than through resellers.
It means what you receive is the genuine article, in current-season stock, and that we can place custom orders straight with the factory when a size is not on the shelf.
Do you have a store I can visit?
No — we are an online store, shipping from our New York office. There is no showroom to visit.
What we offer instead is a free fitting by email or phone. Send your two measurements and we will tell you exactly what to order, which for most women turns out to be more accurate than being measured over clothing in a department store.
Do you offer wholesale or bulk orders?
We are a retail store and do not run a standard wholesale program. If you are a boutique or fitter interested in carrying these brands, email info@fitaumax.com and we will talk.
Section four
Custom orders
For sizes and colors we do not currently hold in stock.
Can I place a custom order?
Yes. If you need a size or color we do not have in stock, we can order it directly from the manufacturer in Poland or France. Custom orders usually take six to eight weeks.
Start on our custom order page, or email info@fitaumax.com with the style, size and color you are looking for.
Section five
Ordering and shipping
Where we ship, what it costs, and how long it takes.
How much is shipping?
Free shipping on orders of $75 and over within the United States.
Below $75, shipping is calculated at checkout based on the items ordered and your address. Full detail is in our shipping policy.
When will my order arrive?
Orders leave our New York office within 24 to 48 hours of being placed.
Within the United States, delivery usually takes three to five days depending on your state and the shipping method you chose. International orders can take up to fourteen days.
If your order has not arrived within that window, email info@fitaumax.com and we will track it down.
Do you offer express shipping?
Yes. Express shipping is available as a paid option at checkout if you need a bra for a particular date. Choose it at the shipping step and the cost is calculated for your address.
Which countries do you ship to?
The United States and its territories, Canada, Europe and Australia.
Will I pay customs duties on an international order?
On international shipments, customs duties and import taxes are the responsibility of the customer. They are charged by your country, not by us, and are not included in the price at checkout.
See our customs duties and taxes page for detail.
Section six
Returns and refunds
Buying a bra online is a leap of faith. Here is exactly what happens if the fit is wrong.
Can I return or exchange a bra?
Yes. Bras can be returned or exchanged within 15 days of delivery, provided they are unworn and undamaged, in the original packaging, with all tags and labels still attached.
Panties cannot be returned, for hygiene reasons.
If you ask for an exchange and we do not have your size in stock, we refund you straight away rather than making you wait.
How do I start a return or exchange?
Email info@fitaumax.com with your order number and the size you would like instead, and we will send you instructions.
If it is a fit problem, send your two measurements along with the request — we would rather get you into the right size than process a refund.
Full terms are on our return and refund policy page.
When will I get my refund?
We process refunds within three days of a returned item reaching us, and email you as soon as it is done.
Your bank then takes its own time to post the payment back to your account — usually up to five business days.
Section seven
Gift cards and getting help
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, in $25, $50, $75 and $100. They are issued electronically by email, each with a unique reference number.
A gift card is the safest choice if you are buying for someone else and do not know her size — which, with a fuller bust, is genuinely difficult to guess.
Do you offer coupons?
Current offers are listed on our coupons page, and subscribers hear about them first.
How do I contact you?
